About Me

Welcome to The Prairie Crocus!

My name is Richelle, and I am a writer and self-taught photographer. As a rancher, I have a passion for sharing stories about life in agriculture, but you won’t find journalistic articles here. My work is a mixture of prose, cowboy poetry, and a favorite old country song.

I began blogging when my oldest daughter was four, as a way to relieve stress and to have an outlet from a job that was hard on both my heart and my health. I have learned a lot since I first began. What used to be a collection of funny stories of toddlerhood and being in the trenches of motherhood with young babies, has evolved into advocating for mental health, agriculture, and women in ranching.

God gave each of us a gift, and for me, writing has been the most incredible gift I have been given outside of being a wife and mom. I am honored to know that my words have touched the lives of thousands of people I have never met in real life. I thank the good Lord every day for the ability to share my story with others, and to let others know they are definitely not alone in their journey down life’s gravel roads.

RANCH LIFE, FOR THOSE LIVING IT.

I have lived on a cattle ranch most of my life, and love it. Ranching is a way of life, not a job- and I am here to share the reality with anyone who will listen. This is not some watered-down, romanticized, “Yellowstone” version of ranch life on the Montana prairies. This page is dedicated to the young families trying to navigate coming back home to the family operation, to our grandparents and parents who are doing their best to keep their places going long enough to hand it to the next generation, and especially to the women juggling all the things that come with being “a ranch wife”. God bless, and God’s speed.
